Fortunately, my university (CEA) offers a plethora of day or weekend trips to students- one being a trip to Girona and Besalú. CEA arranged a bus to and from these communities as well as a guided tour of each city.
GIRONA

Girona is a very old city with buildings dating back to the 11th century. This photograph was taken on top of a medieval fort surrounding the city.

A shallow river divides the city. This river is rarely full but the recent storm, Gloria, provided about 2 feet of precipitation that accumulated in the Onyar River.

Girona is located northeast of Barcelona. Its close proximity to France provides this beautiful view of the french pyrenees mountains.
BESALÚ

Besalú is another city dating back to the 11th century. The only way to enter is through the bridge pictured to the left. However, during the Spanish civil war, it was destroyed to prevent access to the city and later rebuilt in the 1960s.

This photograph, taken from the aforementioned bridge, shows the entirety of Besalú. It is a small town of only about 2000 people.
